Sorbitol MacConkey Agar (SMAC) is a selective and differential medium used in microbiology to isolate and identify certain types of bacteria, particularly those that ferment sorbitol. This agar contains sorbitol as the fermentable carbohydrate and indicators to differentiate between fermenters and non-fermenters.
